Hypothyroidism with Nephrotic Syndrome

Hypothyroidism with Nephrotic SyndromePatients with primary Nephrotic Syndrome (PNS) are often associated with hypothyroidism, which not only aggravates the pathological changes of the kidney itself, but also affects the therapeutic effect and prognosis of PNS. In this article, let’s talk about hypothyroidism and Nephrotic Syndrome.

Causes of hypothyroidism for nephrotic syndrome patients

Nephrotic syndrome is accompanied by changes in the concentrations of thyroid hormone (TH). In nephrotic syndrome, urinary losses of TH binding proteins occurs, such as thyroxine binding globulin (TBG), transthyretin or pre-albumin and albumin, resulting in a reduction in serum total thyroxine and, sometimes, in total T3 levels. These hormonal changes are related both to the degree of proteinuria and to serum albumin levels. Subclinical hypothyroidism occurred more frequently in the nephrotic syndrome patients.

In primary hypothyroidism, there is an increase serum TSH and decrease T4 level. When there is nephrotic syndrome there is also an increase serum TSH level. If patients have increased serum TSH and low level of T4, whenever they come with features of nephrotic syndrome, their feature of hypothyroidism subsided. But their clinical feature and short stature suggest that they have both nephrotic syndrome with primary hypothyroidism.

Treatment for hypothyroidism and Nephrotic Syndrome

For some refractory Nephrotic Syndrome patients, a small dosage of thyroid tablets can be used together with conventional steroid treatment, which is conductive to making proteinuria turn to negative, and improving remission rate and shortening treatment course.

Besides, you can try Toxin-Removing Treatment for Nephrotic Syndrome. This is a systemic treatment, which is composed of 9 therapies. Those therapies can work together to eliminate waste products and extra fluid from body so as to keep blood environment clean and reduce the workload of kidneys. They can also dilate blood vessels and improve blood circulation so as to provide the nidus with enough essential elements such as oxygen, nutrients and active ingredients of medicine to speed up kidney recovery. Moreover, they can reduce renal inflammation and control the disease from getting worse.

After about one week’s treatment, swelling will fade away.

After about half month’s treatment, proteinuria will be reduced.

After about one month’s treatment, Nephrotic Syndrome will be under control, and all associated problems, such as Hypothyroidism will get relieved.
