Is Lisinopril the Best Treatment for IgA Nephropathy Patients

Question: My adult daughter has IgA Nephropathy. She is being treated with 5mg Lisinopril daily. Is this the best treatment for her condition. She has no other illnesses and is otherwise healthy except that she gets frequent upper respiratory infections.

Is Lisinopril the Best Treatment for IgA Nephropathy PatientsAnswer: Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor drug used to treat elevated blood pressure. It can also help reduce proteinuria and protect kidneys from being damaged. Therefore, it is widely used in kidney disease treatment. But I do not think it is the best treatment, because it can not help repair kidney damage, improve renal function or regulate the abnormal immune system for IgA Nephropathy patients. That is why your daughter gets infections regularly. Frequent infections can trigger the relapse of disease or even make it worse, thereby why not change the current treatment?

In Beijing Tongshantang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, we usually use Toxin-Removing Treatment. Clinical practices proved that it can cure proteinuria, hematuria and swelling. This is a systemic Chinese medicine treatment, which makes use of Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, Medicated Bath, Foot Bath, Mai Kang Mixture, Moxibustion, Navel Therapy and other Chinese therapies to increase your urine output, improve your bowel movement and make you sweat so that excessive waste products and fluid can be passed out of body, making internal environment good for kidney self-healing and other medication application. It can also dilate blood vessels to lower high blood pressure. Moreover, it can dissolve stasis and block blood clotting to make blood circulation fluent, and then essential elements such as oxygen, vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, and active ingredients of medicine can be transported into nidus to speed up kidney recovery. After about one week’s treatment, you will see floccules in urine, and edema will disappear. After about half month’s treatment, high blood pressure will come down, and she will feel energetic. After about one month’s treatment, disease will be under control, and renal function will get improved gradually.

Lisinopril is not the best treatment for IgA Nephropathy patients, because it can not help patients have a permanent control of the disease.
