Secondary FSGS and Stage 4 Kidney Failure: How to Avoid Dialysis

Question: My husband has FSGS. He had a biopsy and that confirmed it. Doctors say it is secondary. He is stage 4 kidney failure. How to avoid dialysis?

Secondary FSGS and Stage 4 Kidney Failure: How to Avoid DialysisAnswer: FSGS is a rare disease that attacks the kidney’s filtering units causing serious scarring which leads to permanent kidney damage and even kidney failure. This disease can be primary or secondary in nature. You said your husband has secondary FSGS.

Some causes of secondary FSGS

-Kidney defects from birth

-Urine backing up into kidneys

-Obstructive sleep apnea

-Viruses and blood disorders (such as HIV and sickle cell anemia)

-Autoimmune disorders (such as lupus and HSP)

Do you know what causes your husband’s FSGS?

Treatment for secondary FSGS and stage4 kidney failure

The first thing to do is of course to control the primary disease well, and then to take treatment to halt the progression of FSGS.

Conventional treatment for FSGS is just to use steroids such as prednisone, immunosuppressants and other medications to control associated symptoms such as proteinuria, swelling, etc. Although they are helpful for slowing down the progression, they can not solve kidney problems from the root. In our hospital, we usually Toxin-Removing Treatment, which shows remarkable effect in treating FSGS. This is a systemic treatment, which can eliminate waste products from the blood, and dissolve immune complexes so as to reduce the workload of kidneys. It can also restore the balance of anti-inflammatory cytokines and pro-inflammatory cytokines to reduce renal inflammation and control the disease from getting worse. Moreover, it can improve blood circulation and increase blood flow into kidneys so that provided essential elements such as oxygen, nutrients and active ingredients of medicine can be transported into nidus to speed up kidney recovery.

-After about one week’s treatment, urine will become cloudy due to the existence of wastes. Edema will fade away.

-After about half month’s treatment, proteinuria will be reduced. High creatinine, urea and uric acid level will be decreased.

-After about one month’s treatment, FSGS will be under control, and renal function will get improved gradually. With the promotion of renal condition, you can avoid dialysis.
