What Foods Can Affect the Kidneys for FSGS Patients

What Foods Can Affect the Kidneys for FSGS PatientsWith FSGS, some of the glomeruli are not able to work well to remove by-products of food out of blood. In such a case, if you do not pay attention to what you take, it will increase toxin concentration in the blood further so as to affect the normal function of whole body. What foods can affect the kidneys for FSGS patients? After reading this article, you will get the answer.

-Processed foods and salt

They are high in sodium. Too much sodium can contribute to high blood pressure and edema. High blood pressure can not only cause damage to your kidneys, but also impair your hearts to threaten your life.

-Protein

Proteinuria is a common symptom of FSGS patents. Because of the leaky kidney, the more protein you eat, the more protein it will lose. Therefore, you had better follow a low protein diet. But it does not mean you should avoid protein intake, because you need protein for overall health, muscle maintenance, and to fight infections. Good sources of protein are lean meats, trimmed poultry, fish, egg white, fish, milk, etc.

-Fat

Limit saturated fats (dairy, animal fat) and eliminate trans fat (partially hydrogenated oils found in processed and fast food). Those fats can increase your cholesterol level, raising your risk of heart disease. You can use some healthy oil into your food, such as flaxseed oil, olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, etc.

In addition, if you have high blood potassium level or phosphorus level, you should limit food high in those elements. Generally speaking, a healthy diet for FSGS patients consists of low salt, low fat and low cholesterol, with emphasis on fruits and vegetables. There is not a diet plan suitable for all patients, hence you had better consult a dietitian for help.
